Bendigo Biowash Facility

V/Line is a government-owned corporation that operates regional passenger train services across Victoria, connecting cities like Geelong, Bendigo and Ballarat with Melbourne and other districts.

Unfortunately, animal strikes can be a common occurrence across the rail network and trains need to be inspected and cleaned to ensure a return to service as quickly as possible. The Bendigo line experiences the highest number of animal strikes in the state, so a new $7.9m Bio-Wash facility was recently constructed at the Bendigo Station precinct.

Having a local facility in central Victoria means trains no longer need to travel to Melbourne for cleaning. The new facility also increases cleaning capacity across the entire network, reducing the possibility of service cancellation and passenger disruption. A lighting solution that provided sufficient illumination while withstanding high-pressure cleaning, chemicals and biowaste was required at the Bendigo facility.

Enter the PRACHT Tubis N LED. PRACHT are the experts at providing effective illumination under extreme conditions. Boasting high ingress protection (up to IP66/68(2m)/X9), the Tubis N LED’s smooth surface helps to repel dirt, dust and moisture, while its chemical-resistant housing (made from PRACHT’s proprietary PRACHTOPAL material) combined with age-resistant shortened silicone seals, protects the electrical components within.

The amount of illumination exceeded the client’s required levels, with each Tubis N LED providing up to 4,500 lumens* at 80+ CRI, helping the maintenance team quickly and safely complete their tasks, and getting V/Line’s rolling stock back on the tracks quicker.

Challenges:

  • Achieve Client’s Required Light Levels
  • Withstand Harsh Environment

Results:

  • Uniform Illumination
  • High Colour Rendering Index
  • Resistant To Harsh Conditions
